This visa allows digital nomads to work remotely while living in Greece for up to a year and later can be extended to a resident permit
Many European countries have introduced the Digital Nomad visa - for people with a stable income and who can work from anywhere in the world. For example, Spain and Portugal have such permits. You even get a residence for three years in Spain.
โ
Greece, which boasts beautiful beaches, rich culture, and delicious food, also decided to open an immigration program for digital nomads. This visa allows digital nomads to work remotely while living in Greece for up to a year and later can be extended to a resident permit.
โ
โ
โ
There is no online application for a Greece Digital Nomad Visa. You can apply for the Greek Nomad Visa at the Greek embassy or consulate in your country of residence.
โ
Or if you are already in Greece (you have a valid EU visa or can enter the Schengen zone without limitations), you can apply for a two-year residence permit at the Aliens and Immigration Department.
โ
โ
โ

โ
Youโll need either a booking confirmation or a residential lease, your visa, and your passport to apply for the permit.

No, the Greek Nomad Visa is only available for remote workers who work for a company outside of Greece or run their own business. If you want to work for a Greek company, you will need to apply for a different type of visa.
โ
โ
โ
If you spend more than 6 months (182 days) a year in Greece, you become a tax resident, and you will have to pay income tax. This country has a progressive tax scale. Greek government introduced a 50% tax reduction for digital nomads during the first 7 years of their residency, but we recommend taking advice from a tax attorney or accountant, as there may be nuances.
โ
โ
โ
After five years of life in Greece without leaving the country for more than 6 months in a year, you can apply for a permanent resident permit. After seven years living in Greece you can apply for citizenship.ย
